Introduction
The e-book market (e-books) not yet attracted as many people as the market “electronic audio”. That has not happened yet because the devices (gadges) used to access these e-books has not overcome the advantages of “device” current, What is the printed book (paper).
In the case of “electronic audio”, where the MP3 wins handily among file formats, success was great because the MP3 Players. These devices are very best in portability, Usability, price and ease of use to other audio devices available on the market (Micro Systems e CD Players). It is much better to carry dozens or hundreds of audio files a case with 20 CDs.
Thinking the same way, would much rather carry hundreds of books in a pendrive than some in the backpack. The bigger problem is that the paper has a very big advantage in relation to screen technologies of most electronic devices (LCD) current. The paper does not have an active matrix, that tire the view of the reader after a while. It really is too bad reading on the monitor.
To resolve this issue, a new technology known as OLED came to fight on equal terms with the book. See an example OLED TV – Future where this technology was used.
To OLED, the image is not projected, no active matrix, in other words, no backlight, that does not tire the view of the reader. Summarizing, a screen using this technology could have the same characteristic of a book: static image over a neutral background. E a Sony managed to build a device using exactly these qualities OLED.
Sony Reader PRS-505
The Sony Reader PRS-505 is the second generation of devices for reading e-books from Sony. This version is already much better than the previous, o Sony Reader 500. With it, you can take your electronic books with you anywhere and read them as if they were printed on paper, it uses the OLED on your screen.
The Sony Reader is being sold $299.00 and the trend is for prices to fall further over time. Everything in the computer falls in price over time! :)
See and Fall in love
Below is a video showing the Sony Reader PRS-505 in action:
Important Features of the Sony Reader
The main question that comes to mind are the file formats that the device supports. He works with a proprietary format, o Sony LRF, but also supports Adobe PDF files. In addition to these, there are applications like Caliber converting PDF files to Sony LRF format. So, an e-book that you keep in formats such as Word, PDF, TXT, RTF and HTML can be converted to the formats supported by Sony Reader.
Besides the issue of electronic book, The Sony Reader is also an MP3 Player, allowing you to listen to your MP3s and audio books.
There are other e-book readers like the Kindle of Amazon, Cybook Gen 3 of Bookeen, and the national (Brazilian) eBookRe @ that of ebook cult, but I believe that none wins the features of the Sony Reader.
Target Consumer
The title would be Dream Consumption, but the bug is so interesting, would supply many of my needs and is not as expensive as it could be, that one day I buy it! :)
Futures and Speculation
Maybe one day, several readers have e-books on the streets, in which we accustom ourselves as we are accustomed with phones and MP3 Players. These have infested the whole population in such a short time would not surprise me if it happened also with books. Or gossip magazines and newspapers sports…
As seen in the post SONY READER ON THE L TRAIN, back in New York now has people reading street… :)

Bruno, know when you'll see a lot of people with an e-reader in hand, just like with headphones? Never!!! Everyone wants to listen to music because it has something for everyone, Now the habit of reading is to gradually. Although free ebook for download on the internet, which justifies spending a pittance of £ 199, oo a Kindle Ponto Frio in this, unfortunately, will not happen for the same reason, hardly, you meet people with a book in hand.

Bruno, I bought my Sony Reader last week at the Sony Center in Berlin…. 199 Euros…. valeu to shame…
Hello, I'd like to know we can insert a dictionary english / Portuguese on sony ebook.
Thank you.
Olá Bruno,
Just wanted to point out a small error information in your article:
The technology that enables the Sony ereader (like the Kindle and others estõa being thrown out there) technology is the "E-Ink" (http://www.eink.com/) and not OLED, you also need an active matrix of power to operate. The E-Ink looks like a printed paper while the OLED are organic pigments that rely on an electrical current to operate and generate light as an LCD screen, however they may be bonded to any surface, including folding.
Now the Kindle announced its sale in the country, and some domestic estõa starting to appear (http://www.gatosabido.com.br/leitor/) and apparently the fight and supply in the domestic market is just beginning.
Congratulations Article
Hugs!

How do you, I'm holding you have one of these, because I have thousands of scanned books (and paper), and I'm a doctor, Love reading all, seen, nor… and they spoke in improvements (and price drop) with the passage of time, I hope the next q have color screen, yes there would be irresistible, thought, cheap, multimedia and colorful!? There is temptation, there willpower to resist, q I almost daily visit the Free Market… But we have q prudence. I currently use netbook, And Palm smartphone to read, but does not meet this temptation, Bruno. Thanks for the information, congratulations on the blog.
Very interesting and timely this article, since most people who like to read, like reading all the time if it were possible, the only problem is to take the books over 400 pages, as in my case I do Right, during day-to-day,my question is about the purchase of ebooks, clear that we must respect the law of copyright, But I wonder if there is some blockage for books downloaded from unauthorized internet sites, both the model as the other newer?
Bruno,
I found your excellent article. I am researching which one to buy, I love reading because I hate to take weight on travel.
My doubts: seems that Sony and Google to partner station to be able to download books? U know something? Else: This reader has 3G, as the model of the Kindle? Currently, how do we download books here in Brazil ? Can we also buy and download sheet music ?
cool article on your Sony reader, helped me a lot, but I think he will still improve, especially if they incorporate some improvements. To make money right now, they are improving slowly and launching new models, Soon he will have markers, light, connection by telephone etc., just wait and still carry the handset cheaper.
Bruno, thanks for the tips on the sony ereader. I do PhD and would be wonderful to have one of these with all the books I need and spend all day reading in qq place. But I have a question that to me makes all the difference: I love to accentuate, paragraphs highlight, fazer comenta'rios, notes (in my books and texts in xerox). The reader brings this possibility? Even my adobe NAO is the only reader, Enta São all my PDFs grifados. If the reader does not have this feature, for me does not resolve.
Vc me answering?
Hug!
@ Luiz: The answer is no. This model PRS-505 lacks features touth screen and, therefore, lets not make the texts. Sony has launched a new model, PRS-600SC, Touch it. Search more about it I think it has this functionality. I'm still in the desire to buy one of these! :) peel are worth visiting…
Where to buy a sony reader in Brazil?

Readers should be doing these success there in the States, because Sony has just released a new version of the Sony Reader, the PRS-700BC costing $399.99. The biggest improvement is that now he has a backlight to allow reading in the dark.
I have not seen all the news that version PRS-700BC, but nor am I wanting to see now not to let your mouth water. lol
If you buy a, tell how the experience!
Thanks for the comment!
Hello Paul!
Glad you liked the article. I'm wanting one of these for a long time already, but still do not have. :(
Always think twice before buying… further with this rising dollar, there is a little more difficult.
Also did not know that they would launch a newest. I will investigate this and see what are the new advantages…
Thanks for the comment!

I enjoyed your article!
You already have one of these? Have you seen that by the end of the year will come out the other?!
Bruno,
Very good your article.
This technology is show the ball. The fact that software that convert various file formats to Sony LRF format, should also boost sales and therefore its cheapness. I love that technology, will also be on the list of buyers who are waiting for prices more inviting.
A hug,
Fala Ninja!
This toy is very handy even! A Swiss Army knife! I am also dying to buy and I'm stirring some strings here to get it. As always speak, one note this does not solve my problem of reading e-books, but surely Sony Reader!

Fala AlexRib!
This EeePC seems a child's toy right? Remember Think Well? :) What we have to take all of this joke is that we are increasingly having access to the latest releases industry's technological. Maybe three years from now we will not have this device you are quoting ai… I just find it difficult to throw the microwave, but coffee would be perfectly possible! lol

Recently the Central Avenue, there was an invasion (smuggling) a notebook from Asus that looks more like toy (http://eeepc.asus.com/global/). An employee of mine bought. Eu chamei Notebook da Barbie! It is very small, instead of HD, Memory meat etc.. The screen is still active matrix… but let's give it time. I believe this is the first step of the convergence of portable electronics. Hope, for the future (not far), a device that attaches internet, cellular, eBook, TV Digital, MP3(4), coffee machine and microwave! But all this within a box that is not too small to impair reading, or very large / presado harms transport. Talvez algo dobrável ou "enrolável". Let's wait and see!
With this toy, my folder would be much lighter, imagine only take him instead of an exercise book, a book key, a dictionary, a reference book …ufa… 'm doing bodybuilding for free… I carry a gadge!!!
Show, 'm on the list of potential buyers… and maybe just come back to read other issues…
