George Martin changed a bit your way of narration in this book 4 the Song of Ice and Fire, The Fefstim of Crows. In the narrative is not as intense as in the three previous books.
As the author explains at the end of the book 4, this ended up being a supplement book 3, where the original idea was to maintain the history of these two books in one volume. That just is not possible for two reasons: 1- the book was getting huge and; 2- the publisher should be charging Martin to deliver the book logo 3.
Even if the reader has not reached the end of the book 4, this will realize that many characters that we follow in War of Thrones, A Clash of Kings and A Storm of Swords are not present during the narrative. I finished the book 3 thirsty to find out what would happen to Tyrion Lannister, the slayer of father, but I was frustrated to find that nothing is said about this character. Every time his name was mentioned just outside the mouth of his sister Cercei Lannister.
In all three first books, I chose a character that always stood out in each. As I said in the review of the third book:
If we were to name one character per book, would say that the first was the Eddard Stark, the second and Tirion Laninster, oddly enough, this third Jaime Lannister.
In this book 4 elegerei Cersei Lannister as the main character of the whole plot. All conspiracies game of thrones revolve around your character, whose only desire is to remain in charge of the kingdom of Westeros, with the figure weak and silly of her son Tommen Baratheon as king of the iron throne.
Cersei is certainly the most controversial character and hated all this fourth volume. A woman who thinks only eliminate your enemies and preserve their position of power. Although hate it when reading, understand their actions. In a world where only the strong survive, if it show weakness in the management of the reign, the only thing that will remain is a gallows or a sword on her neck.
Jaime Lannister, Cersei's twin brother, character who learned to hate the books 1 and 2, having doubt in the book 3, beginning to have a certain admiration for this fourth volume. Now as Lord Commander of the Royal Guard, Jaime begins to demonstrate the intelligence of a man who took part in many battles, many of which were just a pawn manipulated by his superiors, and realizes that the world is surrounded by treachery, intrigues and power games that are not aimed at the prosperity of the kingdom.
I begin to see Jaime struggling internally between what is right and what should be done. Now as Lord Commander of the Royal Guard, a man without his sword hand having to maintain custody of the child king, his son, trying to be in a world dominated by his sister Cersei, with debts of honor with his enemy wolf, realize that their anxiety will reserve us great revelations in the books that follow.
Other character who wanted to learn were John Snow, Now as Lord Commander of the Night's Watch, his brothers Brandon and Rickon “missing” e Daenerys Targaryen, the mother of dragons. The book 4 no comments almost nothing about these characters.
Conclusion
This book 4, A Feast for Crows, is a book that would have been incorporated into the narrative of the volume 3, but, marketing strategy by publisher, eventually consolidated into a separate volume, to have one more book to make money and to the author George Martin devote to development of other characters.
Do not put here in this review and comments on Sansa Stark Arya Stark for not finding their relevant passages, much less the stories of Myrcella Baratheon, despite knowing that these characters yet to come.
This book A Feast for Crows is good. Not as much as his predecessors, but it is certainly required reading if you want to finish A Song of Ice and Fire.
Comment below what you think of this book! I'll be happy to know your opinion.
