Book Read: Of 03 June 2013 a 24 July 2013.
Continuing reading the Song of Ice and Fire, George R. R. Martin, this third book, A Storm of Swords, further introduces the reader to the fantasy world created by Martin. In Book One, War of Thrones, is to introduce the reader to a medieval world, in which his characters live with ancient stories of fantastic creatures (The Others), seven very ancient gods, weirwoods tree with white faces in their trunks, but by the end of this book you do not realize it is a story of fantastic fiction. Before finishing the first book, I still felt a living history of human intrigues a medieval background. Already more pro end, with the birth of three dragons, I began to understand why this series is fantastic fiction and non-fiction only.
The two book, A Clash of Kings, has all the intrigue, cases of legitimate kings of Westeros, seeking the throne occupied by Jofrey, hitherto son of King Robert Baratheon, the latter killed by a boar in the book logo 1. Anyone who has read War of Thrones learned that it can not be attached to any character, because this can, ou vai, end up being killed by something banal that will leave you very angry with the author, leaving you with that expression: AS WELL!??? It is, I believe all are now reading the sequence with feeling “can-kill-you-don't-even-tô-ai”, but certainly the affliction is great every turned page. In the book 2 not suffer much from this, because although many people die, you do not feel so much because it has so much love for these characters. Now the book 3, avowed, voltei to ficar, it has prevented, with the expression of “AS WELL”?
In A Storm of Swords the main plot revolves around war over the disputed kingdom by the five kings: Robb Stark, Balon Greyjoy, Joffrey Baratheon, Stannis Baratheon e Renly Baratheon. Really are many kings contending the same kingdom, but some die so banal that even gives time to develop the character. If I remember correctly, Balloons Grayjoy, eg, off a bridge because of lightning and Renly Baratheon, younger brother of Robert and Stannis, is murdered by a shadow born of the womb of the woman in red. Shadow still very poorly explained, but that alerts you that the book is fiction and not a fantastic medieval history.
I will not even tell you what happens to King Robb Stark, the most beloved character all over the reader in this third volume (already gave you imagine right?), but after what happens to him, think about how the story could continue after this episode, that occurs even halfway through the book. Do not know about you, but always read the book trying to put together a story before they happen, trying to predict future events, always trying to guess what comes in three or four chapters, but George Martin always surprises me with its constant changes of direction. What I can say is that, until the end of the third book, assumes a king's reign, but there is none of the five who started the dispute. Crazy thing even!
If we were to name one character per book, would say that the first was the Eddard Stark, the second Tyrion and Laninster, oddly enough, this third Jaime Lannister. While we know that he is a regicide (killer of kings), it was he who threw the window Bran Stark, who takes his sister, begin to see the other side of this character and we think that it is not so bad. This third volume teaches that, before we judge someone, we know both sides of the story. Only in this book that we know the truths, counted by the Jaime, knew the stories of the books 1 and 2, we were passed by other other characters.
I have to also address the blonde across the world, the daughter of the storm, mother of three dragons, the woman will certainly revolutionize the entire history of the Song of Ice and Fire, if not before then killed by Martin, of course; a loira Daenerys Targaryen. Every page she has gained more power and warriors on the other side of the sea. Now you should have more than 4 thousand soldiers and three “castles” taken on your resume, which was already wide. This girl will still far, why even, being a mother of three dragons now you should give a lot of credit, even in a world where these fantastical beings no longer live a long time.
I will not dwell much talking about other characters like Sansa, Arya, Bran Stark e Ger de Jon Snow, but these have not yet died and are evolving with the series.
AH! One tip that I'm starting to get these books. A character dies only if “you” see the body. Bran is an example. This book reveals that his own death was not as deadly as well. With this hint in mind, to talk about the Hound? Does it died? Just reading the next book to find out.
Hopefully Martin lived longer to finish writing the sixth and seventh volumes, What is the current forecast for this saga ends. Ever wondered read to the fifth volume, which is the last published hitherto, and the author can not write to the seventh? We must remember that the first book was published in 1996, in other words, 17 years ago! George Martin is well Velinho, and has left his fans very worried… you know right…
So that's. I really enjoyed this third volume, A Storm of Swords, and very strongly recommend reading, clear, with the function “detachment from the characters” linked. I've started reading the fourth volume, Feast for Crows, and hope to complete it soon-soon to tell here my impressions.
