Unfortunately I started this saga reverse path. I knew the story of this first book, War of Thrones, watching the first season of HBO TV series. When the season was halfway I discovered that it was based on a book of such enormous George R. R. Martin. I just finished watching the first season but decided to no longer follow the TV but begin reading the saga A Song of Ice and Fire. I have always believed that books are always better than the film and TV adaptations.
The first season ended in 19/06/2011 and just started reading War of Thrones – A Song of Ice and Fire in 02/11/2012. In addition to already be reading other books, I had some fear of getting a “enormous” and drag me much reading, reform because of my AP and the wedding preparations were consuming much of my time. Li home, li no ônibus, I read on the subway and ended up finding free time to teminá it. Or was it the magic of the story that urged me to read it at every opportunity? Summarizing, terminei not give 04/01/2013.
I can not say that the book is fantastic, one of the best I've ever read, it is a must read, it had felt all this when I watched the HBO series, who did an excellent job of adapting this work, Visually putting everything a player creates in his mind. Congratulations in particular to HBO for this work.
Despite having seen all season that portrayed this first book, once again confirmed it that the book is much better than an adaptation. I think the TV series was a summary of all that is described in the book, true in many points, with fast passages in other, but a quality absurd as the sets and costumes. Besides the great actors of course.
Focusing now more in the book than in the HBO adaptation, same as the title of this post is about review, the story is passed in a world much like our, but where summer and winter can last years and rumors of spells, Dragons and “Other” ring more true than in our reality. Despite the fear of the wise as winter approaches (the winter is coming), the focus of this first book, War of Thrones, a total of 7 (A Clash of Kings, A Storm of Swords, A Feast for Crows, A Dance with Dragons, The Winds of Winter, A Dream of Spring), the dispute is over the Iron Throne and the attempt to take the power to rule the Seven Kingdoms.
Besides this main plot of the dispute for the throne, two others are treated in the book: one on the fear of the Other; beings without form, size, race or color they are feared by many, but no one knows them and some do not believe there. This is an issue that will certainly be much better developed in other books. The other plot tells the story of only two descendants Dragon Family, sons of the former king who ruled the Seven Kingdoms, you have to spend your life running away to avoid being killed, with the desire to raise an army to regain the throne.
This book is huge, 704 pages, but worth every minute spent to monitor the unfolding mysteries created by George R. R. Martin. Of course I recommend reading, more sugiro that planeje, because lugging that book in the backpack is not a good idea. Maybe a digital version?
AH! One tip: do not get too attached to any character!
Thank you, is a recommendation worth reading. :) I love reading books, each is different in narrative and characters, it's good that more and more directors and actors are adventuring to make series based on books. Loved War two thrones series, tells an extraordinary plot. is very faithful to the books, I look forward to the next season. Hairs summarize that li, Game of Thrones 7 it promises a lot to the viewer and I hope it will be so. Stop watching the show for a while, but I think I'll see her again. I found it very interesting the way it ended last season by all spoilers. I think the performances were very good, is one of my favorite series.
I am a faithful follower of Martin, I read all the books and I'm excited to know that there are more, I also see the show, and I like to follow the history books, I can not wait for this season, It really amazes me the creativity of George R. R. Martin, It is a great fiction writer.

As I read all in English, throw out there so I go out in front! :^)
P.S.: Your last tip in the review is all about: do not get attached to any character as it can disappear on the next page. ;^)
