This post is a continuation of the post PMP: The Road to Certification - Part 1, where I began to question the processes needed to take the PMP Certification. In this second part I will clarify on the audit of PMI, where I studied and studied and. Some tips on how to study are very precious and allow you to get a sense of what it is trying this certification and other tips to not make the same mistake I did at some points.
The audit may seem a bug 7 heads at a glance, mainly for beginners who do not know the process for getting certified. The audit is nothing more than a request, PMI, the proof of any experience or training in the declared process for obtaining eligibility. This does not mean that FBI agents invade your home in the dead of night, rolling your desk and computer for evidence.
If you fall in audit, PMI will send you a form to collect signatures of witnesses who participated in the same project you, especially people you named as the project contact, or request a copy of the diploma training declared. You do not need to send any document proving their performances in the project, even because most of these documents can be classified, preventing your submission, leaving only the requirement to send the signed documents requested by PMI.
If you want to make a smart, declare hours, projects and fictitious persons and, if it falls on audit, forging the signature of these witnesses, you can, but it hurts morale and especially the code of ethics of PMI. Therefore, never do it. Seriously.
The major problem in audit, how could realize, is not part of the verification, but the collection of these signatures. For professionals who have worked on several projects, in several companies, in several states, with various sponsors, sometimes it is impossible to collect these signatures simply because you can not get in touch with the contact information on eligibility.
How to tip, place mainly projects with which you will be able to sign the contact and let them know that this process is quoting. Imagine reaching the contact, requesting his signature and the same is denied? Ferrou né? Prevent asking his permission.
During the request of my eligibility I did not fall in audit, but it can happen at any time, even for the professionals already certified.
After this explanation, I hope that I HAVE managed to shoot the fear behind such audit Dessen.
Of the seven friends who know you personally, six did the preparatory course ProjectLab and only one studied on their own. Of those who did the preparatory course, 3 already passed the test, 3 continue studying at home to try and prove who studied alone has made the race and has already passed.
How could realize, if you have discipline, is self-taught, able to plan to face such a study alone, you can get books and study, but, although I am all that there, preferred to do the preparatory. :)
I chose to follow the path of preparation, even because my friend Alam Braga would also make it, and decided to follow suit in order to study at the same rate and have an incentive.
At the end, studied in ProjectLab, to COMBO PMP 72h (Project Management Fundamentals 16h + Advanced PMBOK 32h + PMP ® Exam Prep 24h, of Rita Mulcahy). The course was not cheap ( 3x R $ 1,029.18), but I think it was worth it, because the guys are super serious and teachers, at least they gave me lessons (Ricardo Marques and Caique), are very good, demonstrating a good theoretical knowledge and practical experience, plus can keep the class awake early (18:30h) until the end of class (22:30h). It is, there ends the lesson even to 22:30h, when it goes a bit. How is a preparatory, the rhythm is gone and time is short and you can not release soon. Just be prepared for the same coffee break every day. :)
As I talked about in the previous post, if you are affiliated to PMI, can earn discounts on course. Search to find out.
I am not one who can sit facing pro book at 8 am and study till 20h. I can not concentrate more than 1h, need various intervals and there comes a time that simply closing the book and never coming back. That was my biggest challenge, mas getting me adapt. I believe my process of studying for certification started with my post in project management software (PUC-Rio), where classes ended the first half of 2008. In the second half started the preparatory course in ProjectLab that ended in December. During the course, I read the book of foundations in project management, read the PMBOK 3rd edition and started reading the book of Rita (Prep for the PMP Exam). After the course, finished reading the book and Rita, Alam also after having completed the first reading, began to study group. Our strategy was to review the chapter in which we had greater difficulty (Integration, Quality, Social Responsibility, Cost, Time, etc. ), reading the most important parts aloud and taking questions that arose. This strategy was very good, but only worked because both had already read the whole book of Rita and marked the parts they thought most important. That's it, highlighter throughout the book. Nothing worth writing, draw, mark, none of that. The book is to be used, lido, understand and write it proved the best strategy for this. A very well recommended Rita.
As nothing is perfect, I believe we have something wrong with. When studied together, fall into the mistake of answering the questions at the end of each chapter also together. A read the question, read the answers together and thought what would be the best answer. This form was not as effective because as we entered into an agreement on the issues, there we discovered our gaps and hit percentage did not reflect individual performance. We learn from this and start to answer the questions individually, to each his own and, one end, when both ended, is that discussing the issues that raise questions and we had just wandering. So it was better. In addition to the simulated that we accounted together, many times did the game's process Rita, separating the processes of each stage and recording the order of the planning processes. This game proved to be very important, revealing several gaps and helping to answer several questions.
As we studied not always together, stayed several hours studying at home. Most chapters of the book I read Rita three times. That's it, the book is great but the gaps are decreasing and increasing the percentage of correct each reading. In the first readings, was a 20 or 40 issues simulated final chapter. When issues of the end of the book ended, I made several small simulated 20 or 40 program issues of Rita, o FASTrack. There came a time when I was only simulated and reviewed the issues in question and that he was wrong. Read the description of why that answer was the most correct, I read in the book of Rita the part about that question and so it was during all simulated. This I consider the period in which my gaps were being reduced more quickly. Sure did several other simulated 200 issues and these were certainly the worst. Sitting in front of the computer, on Saturday at 8 am, with a sun bathing beach window, really is a big challenge for concentration. But the goal of achieving certification was always bigger and managed to win this challenge.
The simulated 200 issues are important not only to know your hit percentage, but also to test your stamina and help you get the best strategy to make the proof. The best strategy for me was, with great perseverance, do 100 first issues, stop, do more 50, stop, finished answering the 200, review the questions marked for review and, only after all, click the liberator "Finish". I will not lie. Making these simulations was a bag, something extremely unusual, which required a high power of concentration on my part, but were super important to show my weaknesses and my physical performance, by percentage of correct. Yes, I made many simulated, getting the answer 1479 questions. There is no soft.
Below is a spreadsheet with the history of these simulated.

Bru, where's the next post???
Fabiana oil!
How is he embarrassed smile to the face of? I need him here to put this answer to your question.
Actually I had thought to write three posts on the PMP certification process, but unfortunately I ended up stopping in the second. The third unfortunately there. :(
Bruno, u finds that getting good grade in FASTrack give pra face the test?
Hello Priscila, your question is very good.
In my view, notes acquired FASTrack demonstrate how you are used to thinking of the PMI and, consequently, what your level of knowledge on the subject.
My tip is that, if you follow the method study of Rita, study hard to achieve average 75% of success in the simulated FASTrack. I believe that this percentage is the ideal officer to face trial.
Anyway, study hard and stuff, each wrong answer, search for why the error, reading the chapter and clarifying the FAQ. Just so you will improve the percentage of accuracy in FASTrack.
Study well and good proof!
Oi Bruno, congratulations for your posts which is of great help to all who are looking for more clarification on the internet on how to study, as applied, tips to succeed in the exam, etc.… thanks for these posts.
I have a question I tried to make friends with some certificates and did not feel very firmly on your answers so I would ask you (maybe you are up for a question and asshole, but would greatly appreciate if you can help me…):
– I'm filling out the eligibility. Are 4 information pages to be filled on the projects (page 3: which the project was done and where, page 4 and 5: hour project, page 6: summary of parts of the project as the phases). If during the 3 years made several small projects in one company, but always did it because I work with, I fill these 4 pages for each little project I made? Or can I add it up and try to describe how a project only?
Thank you!!!
Oi Bruno, very good post.
I just do the course in Project Lab (Combo 48h – FUND + PMBOK 4ed).
My strategy for this study are the following:
– reading the PMBOK highlighting all important;
– made a numerical table that helped me decorate the areas of processes x groups;
– I got a flow with all inputs / TOOL / outputs of each process;
– I bought the book from Rita + Fastrack. (the idea and save prep course).
1) underline the PMBOK;
2) ler as apostilas do Project Lab (with all my lecture notes) and references to the PMBOK (ex. F-108 would slide 108 Fundamentals of apostille. PA1 = Advanced PMBOK – PArt 1 PA2 and the apostille 2 do PMBOK);
3) decorating processes (location groups + names + inputs / priming / outputs);
4) laughing o PMBOK (with references) 1x / week; (attesting, but reading only the underline of time)
5) after making the step 4, 4 times, go to Rita's book and make a schema type your.
Let's see which will give. :)
Olá José!
Very cool its strategy, but I suggest that, ao ler of inve 4 times the PMBOK, that leia 2 or 3 times the book of Rita. At this stage I consider much more important book of the PMBOK Rita.
After, do much simulated. Much the same. You will be amazed at the growth of knowledge when that stage of the simulated.
Good luck and success in the proof!
Bons studies!
Olá Bruno,
I'm studying for the test certficação but I'm picking up the answers that seem obvious are often not the correct.
Fell many calculations?
A hug,
Ziello
Olá Bruno!
I congratulate you for the blog, is of great value to all who are preparing for the PMP certification exam, I like.
I wonder if you can help me. I'm filling in the form of eligibility and was with out a doubt: projects must be reported closed? The question arose because I want to use the hours of a project I'm managing since 2006, and will end next September.
Already grateful for the attention devoted.
At.
Rita Froes.
Olá Rita.
You must declare the hours worked on the project, even if it has not expired. Have projects that take years and even know that PMI.
If you have not read, I suggest my other post "PMP: The Road to Certification – Part 1" with tips on eligibility.
Thanks for visiting and good luck on the test!
*study hard but ehn!
Grande Bruno!
How long face! Only you think quando searches on the Internet. The last was on ebook for my MBA in Digital Marketing. Now looking for positive or negative comments about projectlab because I do combo (72h). Ultimately, typed into google and your blog came again!
Hair li! Looks like it was worth it! Beginning this week!
Changing the subject.
I'm living in Sao Paulo / Campinas ha 1 ano e meio. I married Edemir (The ETERJ) I do not know if u remember?!… And I'm very well here.
Send news. Me add no msn: evikken@hotmail.com
Abrasive!

Simulated in Portuguese Free, I liked the level of questions: continues to tip, http://www.issoe.com.br
hello…
Your posts are great!
Eu Tambo estudei na lab project, I did the combo 72 hras, but did the 3 and… and not made proof at the time.
I am resuming studies, already bought all the updated material, including lab project continues supporting me today (1 year after I completed the course), very good guys…
Since I have a study group with whom to share, then resorted to blog, criiei one with the goal of trying to exchange experiences, but it'm being more focused on the subjects of chapters… postarei lacunas, doubts, and when descorbir, I'll post the results here :).
And for those who are in the same way, We can help!
Hugs and congratulations!
Hello, Bruno!
First, congratulations on winning! I'm the same way… finish the course of this week ProjectLab, but I am already in marathon studies since October! The race is scheduled for 14/01. The level of tension and stress are very high, but willpower is great! I hope to have the same success that you!
Your posts are excellent, and only increase the confidence to everyone, I like, are fighting for certification.
Great Hug!
It took, but just take time to read the second part.
I'm recommending your texts to friends interested in taking the exam. It, really, are very good.
But, I have a doubt… for those who have not researched anything about… I do not know what is FASTrack… are simulated? It is a program with simulated? Where'd you get the simulated?
I also intend to start the preparatory, but it is necessary and / or critical reading all the books before? Or I can start the cycle of studies during the course?
@Sandra: I finished the preparatory in mid-December and took the test in mid-February. I do not have precise information on how many hours I studied, but certainly were more than 60h. I can say that from December to fevereito had little social life. :)
@ Rodrigo: The software is FASTrack simulated Rita. Making preparatory ProjectLab he comes as a material. If you want to buy separately, is currently costing R $ 825.00 on there site of ProjectLab.
How to read the books before, not required, but if you have time, always good and if you can study in a group or at home during the course, better still, it can clarify doubts with the teacher during class.
Peel are worth visiting! Good luck and falls within that gives pra passar. ;)
Bruno, congratulations.
I have some questions…
How long before the race you finished the preparatory?
How many hours do you calculate who studied not counting the preparatory course?
These answers will help me make a decision.
Grata,
Sandra
Grande Bruno, Your Posts are always better, My saga is a bit like her. Also made in the course of ProjectLab Salvador in November/2008, despite being in Brasilia.
After the Course, did simuladão of ProjectLab and hit only 55% issues, gave a stop last week and resumed studies.
From the result of simuladão, I found out where my weaknesses were and began to read only the chapters. Every day I'm making in simulated Fastrack, it has also helped me a lot.
In the most, thank you for your comments and invite you to help my Blog (http://certificacaopmp.wordpress.com) to be a reference in preparation for the Certification.
Big hug,
Fernando S. Dantas
Bruno,
Thank you for your posts and congratulations certification!
I wonder if you answered the test in English or Portuguese?
Hugs!
@Rodrigo Tucunduva: Took the test in Portuguese and had no problems with the translation. I still have to write the part 3 that count as such evidence was.
Thanks for the comment!
@ Fernando S. Dantas: Thanks for the comments! But what is this roll ehn! Lives in Brasilia and did the course in Salvador. Yet this is exactly, when we want to achieve our goals. After going to see the site which indicated, to learn more!
Thanks for the feedback!
Fala Bruno,
Before anything else, congratulations on your certification and thank you for sharing your experience with us.
I started studying for certification last year, I got to do a great preparation in Crosswind but just taking a break in study. Now I am returning to the book of Rita and not to let the shuttle lands this time I've already paid and marked evidence.
I just do not have the PM FASTrack, you purchased or otherwise managed? É pt you eng?
Else, you could reveal what was the percentage of correct answers on the test? So I can compare with your percentage of correct answers in the simulated and get an idea of how much will need to be doing to go safely to the proof.
Big hug!
Alexandre Rímolo.
@ Alexandre:
Thanks for the congratulations. It really is a win!
The material I used was purchased along with the package COMBO 72h of ProjectLab. Contains the Book of Rita, Hot Topics, PMBOK 3ª editing and FASTrack, all in Portuguese.
Regarding the percentage of accuracy in the test, this is no longer displayed. Now only shows your level of knowledge in each area. Therefore, does not disclose as a percentage because it no longer exists.
Thanks for the comment!
