Many people write to me asking for help to clarify some doubts about the PMP certification. I have written articles Way to PMP Certification - Part 1 and Way to PMP Certification - Part 2 that help people prepare for the test, but many still wonder about the amount of hours required for proof of experience in Project Management during the eligibility.
The first place you should look for questions about the PMP certification process is PMP Certification Manual, also known as PMP Handbook, but he unfortunately ends up leaving some questions unanswered.
In eligibility requirements for PMP, education determines the amount of hours of experience in project management that need to be declared for obtaining eligibility. To complete the second degree, high school diploma, are necessary 7.500, totalized in leading and directing project tasks in, and 4.500 hours to complete upper, degree of bachelor degree or. I consider this point in the PMP Handbook and enlightening, the problem is that in Brazil there is a question too large with respect to courses: Senior Technologist x x x Bachelor Degree.
Clarifying some points:
Bachelor
First we need to understand what is a bachelor of science in order to analyze what is written in the PMP Handbook. Searching on Wikipedia, have:
"The bacharelado ou bacharelato is an academic degree with different characteristics according to the time and country. The holder of a bachelor's designated “bachelor”. In Brazil, bachelor's degree is conferred at the undergraduate level in most areas of human knowledge. Are usually obtained in higher education that can last from three to six years, with extensions over with Specializations, Masters, Doctorates and post-doctorates ".
Summarizing, who completed higher education already has a bachelor's degree. Now comes the big question:
Technologist is considered upper?
The problem now is to know whether short courses, also known as technologists, are higher education courses (graduation). This answer was easy to find, because the very MEC says Technologist is considered upper yes:
As the CNE / CP 3, of 18 December 2002, Art. 4º, "The higher technological courses are undergraduate, with special features, and conform to the guidelines contained in the CNE / CES 436/2001 and lead to the award of the diploma techie ".
Answering questions then post, if your course is Technologist and approved by MEC, you yes you can declare only 4.500 experience in Project Management.
Care, because there are many courses that are considered as being Technologist but not approved by the MEC. In such cases you will not receive a bachelor's degree and, therefore, must declare 7.500 hours to the procedure eligibility.
If you want to know if your course is approved by the MEC, then access the portal e-MEC.
I have helped to clarify this doubt. Comment here in the post if you agree with the analysis and let it evolve.
Bruno, good day.
I sent an email to the PMI is the answer I had for the technologist is that you need to declare 7500h same, because technologist are not 4 years. I was now in extreme doubt and fall into the audit and be “banned” I do not accept as a candidate more.
Staff, on my website I have an infographic I made with all the details needed to know about the exam, from how to fill out the paperwork subscription, to tips on exam. An absolutely complete guide. Just download here: http://eupmp.com.br/certificacao-pmp/
Furthermore, Here's another article explicitly talking about using STUDIES CYCLE in their preparation: http://eupmp.com.br/2015/01/13/certificacao-pmp-atalho-aprovacao/
Both elementary reading!

First I would like to congratulate you for the post.
The question I have has to do with the question of PMP certification, but it has to do with the question of course be recognized as technologist bachelor's degree. I intend to do an international MBA and these courses abroad bachelor's degree is required. I graduated FATEC and my course is recognized in MEC. I wonder if you know if these situations the title of technologist is also equivalent to the bachelor's abroad (More specifically, U.S. us)?
Thank you in advance for your help.

Olá Bruno,
First congratulations to the Blog. Is very good.
I read the page's eligibility PMP Handbook you informed and it says that it takes on a training course 4 years as follows:
“Four-year education (Bachelor's degree or equivalent)”
I have undergraduate programs and graduate also. Will this be a problem, as the stroke was not 4 years?
Thank you!
I have the same doubt! You got to do?
My fear is that a possible audit, find that the applicable statute 3 not 4 years.
Good afternoon, Bruno. Congratulations for the post. I am preparing for certification and almost discouraged when a friend commented that technologists needed to prove 7.500h.
When you took the exam was already post-graduate, correct? Your post was strictu senso lato or?
You put the highest degree as “Bachelor's degree or equivalent”?
Just like you, sou technologist and post-graduate. Furthermore defend my dissertation in September. Much injustice would not be classified in the category upper.
OBS: The MBA I've concluded. The thesis I defend in September is my second post graudação, this time Masters strictest sense.
Abs
Hello Diogo!
Answering their questions, when I took the exam for certification, was already postgraduate yes, and my graduate degree is sensu lato.
At the time of the eligibility process I put a Bachelor, because as I explained in the post, MEC considers my course as undergraduate and, consequently, Bachelor of Science Degree.
I hope that everything goes right in their studies and are able to get success in exam!
Bruno, excellent initiative to share their knowledge and experiences in this blog. Congratulations!
I wonder if in fact you had any experience with this issue experienced title or graduation then truthful information to someone you know who has fallen in the audit of PMI and has been eligible through the graduation diploma technological.
A hug!
Ola Eduardo!
Particularly not know anyone who has fallen in the PMI audit for problems in undergraduate degree technology, but I know that this topic generates a lot of doubt when the PMP certification candidate possesses a diploma techie. Yes I know people who had technologist diploma, who went through the process and have not fallen on audit.
I wrote this post to analyze, with common sense, this issue techie x PMP and researched arguments that prove my position. I still believe that line the post, but if you have some experience against, I ask you to work together on share on the subject and clarify to the community.
Thanks for visiting the blog!
