The author of this book is the Richard Mercer, IT graduate and post graduate degree in business administration from FGV, which operates the 26 years in the field of Information Technology and has developed his professional activities in the areas of IT Infrastructure, Information Security and Telecommunications. As a teacher, Minister in the undergraduate chair open source operating system (Linux) from 2007. With all this experience, Ricardo decided to write the book to help readers better know this tiny computer and also teach the practical use of the Linux operating system.
Enough of the introductions and we will soon interview:
Interview
BrunoCunha.com: Ricardo, What motivated you to write the first book in Portuguese on Raspberry Pi?
Richard Mercer: The Raspberry is very cheap and a proposal had its conception and launch abroad, therefore, all documentation, tutorials and much of the existing manuals are in English. The idea of the book is to provide the material necessary to support the use of this technology in Brazil.
BC: Basically, what it is and how it can be used the Raspberry Pi?
RM: The Raspberry Pi is nothing more than a Computer "complete" classified as SBC - Single-Board Computer, in other words, a computer mounted on a single board processor, memory, I / O and other components necessary for operation. Those who have never seen an RPI may be thinking; What differs from other computers know? The main difference is the size of this equipment, as the Raspberry Pi as tem measures 8.6cm x 5.4cm x 1.5cm (C x L x A), in other words, something very close to a credit card!
Released for the consumer market at the end of February 2012, the Raspberry Pi, or also known as RPI, the proposal has to be an inexpensive equipment and be part of the school curriculum in order to participate in the educational process of children.
BC: The Raspberry Pi seems to be quite cool, but it can be used for purposes which?
RM: The Raspberry Pi can be used as a workstation, to terminal access to internet or also play the role of a server (is clear that we must consider the processing capacity).
BC: But what about your book, what readers learn from it?
RM: Through a simple and friendly, Raspberry Pi Concept & Practice combines initiation in learning the Linux operating system to Raspberry use Pi; the world's cheapest computer! Will discuss the installation steps, configuration and administration, concluding with the realization of practical projects (File Server, WEB Server, etc.) applicable in both the RPI as well as on a common PC.
BC: A curiosity. You have a Raspberry Pi in your home?
RM: Yes, including my blog photos are available. The use of Raspberry home was motivated by the need to centralize data in a single point. You already made a quick calculation of how many devices have at home? And data stored on? Without proper organization, the information stored in different places generate inconsistencies that can result in losses including!
As the RPI has very low energy consumption, associated with small investment, I set up my file server that is connected 24×7! All my information (data, Photos, tights, etc.) are stored in it, which facilitates access, the organization and the backup.
BC: Thank you for having given their time to this interview here in BrunoCunha.com and wish you success in your book sales. And then others will come!
RM: Bruno, I appreciate the space and opportunity to share here on the blog more about this new technology. Until next time!
