Installed iTunes no meu notebook com Windows 8 and the message “An unknown error occurred (-42110)“, something like “An unknown error occurred (-42110)”, was always displayed when I opened iTunes. Searching the Internet quite found the solution for my case in site support Apple's own. The information on the website is that this error happens because iTunes asks repeatedly for you to allow your computer to run items purchased from the iTunes Store.
In my case my computer was already authorized to accept items purchased, but still the error was made. The solution to this is as follows:
First: Show hidden files and folders
First of all, if your operating system is Windows, you must ensure that all files and folders are displayed. Windows has an option to hide some system files to protect them from being accidentally deleted by the user. As in this case we know exactly what we're doing, first follow the tip below, selecting the version of your Windows, to be able to display these hidden files.
Windows XP
1. Open Windows Explorer pressing the set key “Window E” or button Start > All programs > Windows Explorer;
2. Click on the menu Views;
3. In Hidden files and folders, click Show hidden files and folders.Windows Vista
1. Button Start > Control Panel > Appearance and Personalization > Folder Options.
2. Click the tab Display.
3. Click Advanced Settings, then Show hidden files and folders and finally OK.Windows 7
1. Open Control Panel. Say: use the set key “Window R”, type “control” and hit enter;
2. Select the item Folder Options. Should you not find, see that on the right, over the window, there is the option “View by:”. Change this option to “Small Icons”. Now to make it easier to find the item options Folder;
3. Tab View, area Advanced Settings, check the Show Files, pasta and hidden units.Windows 8
1. Open Control Panel. Say: use the set key “Window R”, type “control” and hit enter;
2. Select the item Folder Options. Should you not find, see that on the right, over the window, there is the option “View by:”. Change this option to “Small Icons”. Now to make it easier to find the item options Folder;
3. Tab View, area Advanced Settings, check the Show Files, pasta and hidden units.
Deleting the correct folder
You should now delete the folder “SC Info” your computer.
- Close all open programs on your PC or Mac;
- See what your operating system and access the folder path specified:
- Mas OS X: /Users/Shared/SC Info
- Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\
- Windows Vista: C:\ProgramData Apple Computer iTunes
- Windows 7: C:\ProgramData Apple Computer iTunes
- Windows 8: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\
- Delete a pasta “SC Info” and restart your computer.
Soon, Now the message should disappear when you start iTunes. Worked for me.
Any questions write in comments to try to help.

If u do not determine what will be shown hidden files and folders, can not delete the folder indicated. A good tip is, but incomplete.
Hit it there , Bruno.
It's true about the hidden files. Me only worked well:
Control panel > folder options > view > files and folders > hide protected operating system files (recommended) (can not be selected) and > hidden files and folders – select “show files, pasta and hidden units”
Yes there has to view the folder and delete.
Cant, Your comment has a great tip! Complementei the post with step-by-step to display hidden files and folders. Thanks for the trouble!
Hello. I love your blog. Parabens.
I tried to follow the steps but could not find the file in that folder SC info, only in system32, then thought better not mess. If you know otherwise, can warn me? I will look in iTunes Help to see if I can find the solution, but any help is welcome.
Thank you, Cipriana
Olá Cipriana! Glad you like the blog, but now we will try to solve your problem.
First of all, what needs to be deleted is pasta “SC Info” not a file as mentioned.
The folder location “SC Info” varies with the operating system. Copy the path below, referring to your OS, open the managed file (no Windows é o Windows Explorer), and paste the path in the address bar.
Mas OS X: /Users/Shared/SC Info
Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\
Windows Vista: C:\ProgramData Apple Computer iTunes
Windows 7: C:\ProgramData Apple Computer iTunes
Windows 8: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\
Soon, Now you should see the folder “SC Info” that needs to be deleted.
Hopefully now you can. Comment here if you still can not.
Bruno Cunha > I had the same problem and decided to follow their guidelines … Thanks.
